The purpose of Residential Schools was to "educate" and "convert" Indigenous youth and to "assimilate" them into Canadian society... To "eliminate the Indian out of the child..." Regardless of the intentions of these institutions, the result and long term effects of residentials schools has been a tragedy felt by all Indigenous people.
