Sam Pearce - Dad's New 92 Acura

From the new album "Bay State."

Sometimes you really just want to reflect on life, let the nostalgia wash over you as your mind wanders back to simpler days. Maybe you were driving down a long stretch with your dad, not a word needed between the two of you, just a bond that will stand the test of time. Honestly, this song kind of gave me the feels folks. "Dad's New 92 Acura," is a simple approach at a light rock sound, and production, but to great effect. Though I am a very eclectic consumer of music, I don't often find myself absorbing this particular genre. However this song makes me think I should start. I am always thankful for discovering gems like this, or having them submitted to me (wink), and this one was a beautiful eyeopener and reminder that what is very out of the ordinary or outside of your personal preferences can sometimes really touch you, or really resonate with you.

I think this song is very relatable to just about anyone. We all have different experiences with our mothers and fathers, but most of us are lucky enough to at least have those precious few memories, and I think this song is a testament to that. Listening to this song stirs up the same kinds of emotions one might get by looking deep into a dusty old photograph whilst the still images of our loved ones stare back at us through time.

From a production point of view, I really don't have any complaints, as it's pretty solid. Though, I am pretty sure I hear a chair creak just before the three minute mark (I might be wrong). The guitars are spacey and dreamy, and absolutely drenched in verb for dramatic affect which the song achieves without seeming excessive. the horns are angelic, and everything sits nicely in the mix. Job well done.

If I were to sum up this song, I would say its a lot like an old friend sharing their happiest, or saddest moments with you. Maybe it was a long drive with their pop, or maybe it was something else all together, but the important part is that they shared it with you.
