JRtheBand - Rocketship

I have been lucky enough to get to know this particular artist over the past few months online, and one thing that I can say is that he really seems to be a genuinely nice person, and I think that this actually comes out in his music. JRtheBand, literally has nice sounding music, the songs alone are almost enough to suggest that JR would be a pretty laid back guy who is easy to get along with, and one can almost take a sort of comfort in the music that he shares with us.

"Rocket ship" has a real classic rock vibe, and seems to have a bit of a country music influence as well. The acoustic guitars shine like a starlit night on this track, and set a perfect back drop to the overall feel of the production. It is not often that you hear acoustic guitars sound this crisp and bright with no harshness whatsoever, and panning two separate guitars tracks, one to each ear, was an excellent production decision. I would have to assume that the two guitar tracks are not from one take either as they definitely sound like two different performances, as opposed to two mics on one source. These are the type of production decisions that can really define a song, and make it sound that much greater, which this does. Put simply, the guitars sound immaculate.

The bass and the drums do exactly what they should be doing creating a very solid foundation, though the drums to get pretty creative with some very nice fills. The guitar solo though somewhat subtle still gives me chills in context to the song, and was both placed and played perfectly. I always dig a little harmonica, and it was an excellent addition to this song toward the end, and was well used, and clearly not overused.

Though I do find the lyrics to be a little cryptic, and largely open to interpretation, as JR seems to like the use of metaphor and simile, I still find myself hanging on to every word. JR's vocals soar beautifully on this track, and truly speak to the consummate professional that he is. This is an absolutely excellent song, and would appeal to a very wade range audience for sure.

All in all, a shining example of what can be achieved when an extremely professional approach is taken and combined with the creative process. Please treat yourself to this song.
